DIY Christmas Puzzles

Who doesn’t love a fabulous dollar store craft – especially one that the kids can help make and will then keep them occupied.  Well, today I’ve got another easy and inexpensive Christmas craft for you using items that I found at the dollar store.

I feel like I’ve lived at the dollar store this month.  I keep stopping in there to buy one thing and end up leaving with a cart full of crap.  And, when I say crap I mean stuff that I had to have because it’s only $1:)

During my latest shopping trip I picked up a handful of Christmas cards and thought they would be fun to turn into DIY Christmas Puzzles.  These are so easy to make.  All you need are cards, scissors, glue, and craft sticks.  Gotta love a fun, easy, and expensive kids craft project!

Materials needed to make DIY Christmas Puzzles:

  • Christmas cards
  • Scissors
  • Glue or glue stick
  • Jumbo craft sticks
  • X-ACTO knife

Step 1: Cut the back side of the card and discard.  We’re only using the front of the card.

Step 2: Apply glue to the back of each card cover.  Lay craft sticks in a row on back of card and let glue dry for 10-15 minutes.

Step 3: Separate craft sticks with X-ACTO knife.

Step 4: Mix pieces up and put your DIY puzzles together.  Store in resealable plastic bags.

How easy was that?  A fabulous Christmas craft that kids can help with and an activity to keep them busy for a little while.  Maybe you can even get some wrapping done while they put their puzzles together.  That might be wishful thinking:)

You can even make the puzzles more difficult for older kids by putting multiple puzzles in one bag so they have to sort out the sticks for each picture.
