Family Rules Sign In This Home

Family Rules Sign

A family rules sign is the perfect addition to anyone’s home and a statement piece for every room. I wanted a fun sign for our entry way and fell in love with the In This Home… signs I kept seeing online.  And, since I have my handy dandy Cricut, it only made sense that I make one myself.  After looking at a few different versions, I created my own and I’m excited to share this free Family Rules SVG and Free Printable.  I know not everyone has a vinyl cutting machine so I’ve included two free printables for everyone to download.

In This Home… Free SVG Cut File

Want to make a wood sign with this free SVG cut file?  If so, this is what you need:

First, sand and paint the board.  I wanted my board to be black with white letters so I painted the board black.  While the paint is drying, create a new canvas in Cricut Design Space and upload the free SVG cut file.  Add vinyl to cutting mat and let your Cricut work it’s magic.

Next, weed out the letters so you have your stencil.  Add transfer tape to the vinyl and transfer to your piece of wood.  Use the scraper to make sure the vinyl is smooth an completely adhered to the board.

Paint the letters white or whatever color you want the letters to be.  Once dry, remove the vinyl from the board and admire your handmade sign.

House Rules Free Printable

If you don’t have a Cricut or Silhouette, don’t worry – you can still make this sign using the free printable.  There are a few ways to use this free printable to create a sign for your home.  First, you can keep it simple and just add it to your favorite frame.  If you want the printable to look more like a wood sign, print the printable and add to your favorite frame but keep the glass off the frame.  Use double sided tape on the back of the printable to keep it from falling out of the frame. You can also use spray adhesive or Mod Podge to adhere printable to a piece of wood.  Then, lightly sand the edges to give is a distressed look.

Tips for Printing Large Prints

To make smaller copies up to 8×10, print on cardstock or photo paper.  For larger prints, you’ll need to have it professionally printed.  I usually have my printables printed by Shutterfly or Print Studio.  This printable would be awesome printed as an Engineering Print from Staples or Office Depot.  I think those cost less than $5 to print so that’s a great deal.
