The holidays are fast approaching, and I can’t wait to go back home to spend time with family.  One of my favorite things about going home to my parent’s house is our family breakfasts that my mom prepares.

When we go home all of my brothers, their wives and children usually end up staying over at my parents also so all the grandchildren can spend as much time together as possible.  It usually turns into one big, awesome slumber party.  Then in the morning, we end up gathered around the dining room table drinking our coffee and eating a delicious breakfast together.  My mom is always prepared with plenty of food for all of us.

She’s always prepared for everything!  One day I want to be just like her:)

Angel Food Cake 7 Up TEN

She recently tried a new recipe that was so good, I just had to share it with you.  She made us Angel Food Cake French Toast and it was delicious!  What’s not to love about eating cake for breakfast.

But she had a secret ingredient that made the cake extra fluffy and airy.  It was 7UP TEN®, full flavor, only 10 calories!

What happens when you take a piece of Angel Food Cake, coat it with egg, and fry it in butter?  You end up with a piece of french toast that is crunchy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside.  Words just can’t describe how perfect this breakfast recipe is.

Angel Food Cake French Toast

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of Angel Food Cake
  • 1 1/4 cup 7UP TEN®
  • 6 eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Step 2:  Once cake has completely cooled, cut into slices.  (I was able to cut mine into 15 slices)

Step 3:  In small bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon.  Heat a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 4:  Dip each piece of angel food cake into egg mixture – make sure to cover both sides. Place a small amount of butter on skillet, then place cake it and cook until golden.  Flip and cook on other side.  Repeat with remaining slices, adding butter to skillet each time.

Step 5:  Serve with syrup, berries, and/or powdered sugar.

Enjoy!

  1. What a delicious and awesome idea for making French toast! I’ve never though about using angel food cake, either…but it would indeed make a great French toast base. Thanks for sharing! #client
