It’s the most wonderful time of the year and it’s also time to spread Christmas cheer! Grab a few of your favorite holiday treats and the You’ve Been Elfed Printable below because it’s time to elf the neighbors!
This fun Christmas activity is similar to booing your neighbors on Halloween but instead we’re elfing them with Christmas goodies. If you love to surprise your friends and neighbors with fun gifts, you’re going to have a blast with this You’ve Been Elfed Christmas activity. I also think this is a fun little tradition to start with co-workers. Leave a special surprise on their desk and let the fun begin.
How to Elf Someone
Want to know how you spread holiday cheer this year and elf your friends? It’s so easy!
- Download and print the free printable. We usually choose two or three families to elf so print a few copies of the printable because each family will need a set of directions.
- Put together a little gift bag, gift box or gift basket full of Christmas goodies. Add the printable with directions and “We’ve Been Elfed” sign to each gift package.
- Place the gift on your neighbors porch without letting them see you.
- Your friends and neighbors will make copies of the You’ve Been Elfed and We’ve Been Elfed printables and continue the fun holiday tradition.
I need to record Connor and Easton elfing our neighbors because it is hilarious to watch. He loves leaving the gifts by the door, ringing the doorbell, and then running away as fast as he can. He just laughs and laughs as he’s running and then I laugh because they are laughing. It’s so much fun!

What’s Included with this You’ve Been Elfed Printable?
This holiday printable includes two 5×7 printable cards. One card says “You’ve Been Elfed and includes an elf poem with directions on how to elf others. The other card says “We’ve Been Elfed”. This sign should be hung in a window by the front door so friends and neighbors know they have already been elfed.
When making copies, keep the two printables on the same page. Then you can cut the “We’ve Been Elfed” sign out and place in window or on door.
Items to Add to Your Elf Goodie Bag
I usually just go to the dollar store to get items to elf our friends and neighbors with. Remember, it doesn’t need to be expensive. Just a little goodie bag to spread holiday cheer!
- Candy
- Candy Canes
- Christmas pencils
- Hot cocoa
- Popcorn
- Homemade cookies
- Holiday Coloring books and crayons
- A new Christmas mug or Christmas cup
- Gloves, mittens, or hat
- Lip gloss, nail polish, lotion, etc.
- A new ornament
- Slime or playdough
