Meal Time Fun with Skylanders

Connor LOVES Skylanders!
Look at that happy face. Isn’t he the cutest?! He loves the video game but he also enjoys sitting at the table and playing with all the figures. He will sit and play with them for hours and talk to me while I cook dinner or work on blog stuff.
For Christmas, Connor got a large Skylanders Coloring book and I realized they were the perfect size for placemats. I had a few laminated so he could color on them while he eats and it made clean up after meal time so much easier. I also created a fun Sylanders activity sheet so we can play some games together at the table. Connor loves tic-tac-toe so I added a few of those along with an activity to see how many words he can make from the word “Skylanders”. That should keep him busy for a little while. Download HERE.
And then we found these Kid Cuisine with the FREE Skylander Battlecrest card inside at Walmart! Connor was super excited about the FREE Skylander Battlecast card inside every Kid Cuisine and I was excited that each meal serves wholesome ingredients like 100% natural chicken breast, whole fish fillets, real cheese, whole grains and NO preservatives. Oh, and we can’t forget about the dessert that each Kid Cuisine comes with. That’s definitely exciting.
You can just imagine his excitement. And I was super cool because I let him pick out 3 to try and told him we can come back next week to get more.
I also found some awesome Skylander fabric and thought it would be fun to make Connor something with the fabric. Around Valentine’s Day I saw Valentine envelopes that you put on the back of your chair and I realized that would be perfect for Connor to have at our table. This Skylander Chair Envelope is perfect for Connor’s books and figures that he usually has on the table.
Want to make one? All you need are a few supplies:
- half a yard of fabric
- 1 yard of Ultra-Firm One Sided Fusible interfacing
- fray check
- iron
- large button
- glue gun and glue sticks
- velcro
- ribbon
Step 1: Cut interfacing to look like picture below (It almost looks like an arrow). The size will be depend on the width of your chairs. Mine is 14 inches x 26 1/2 inches from end to end.
Step 2: Iron fabric to interfacing. I ironed the fabric first and then trimmed to fit around interfacing. Use fray check to keep fabric from fraying to keep this a no-sew project.
Step 3: Use your handy dandy glue gun to glue the sides of the envelope together.
Step 4: Glue button to front of envelope flap using glue gun. This is purely for looks. Then use glue gun to glue velcro to envelope. Make sure you line it up right:)
Step 5: Cut two strips of ribbon. (The length will depend on your chairs. Mine are 20 inches long.) Fold ribbon in half and glue 3 inches of ribbon to the back, top of the envelope. Tie around top of chair.
That’s it. Now you have a cute chair envelope that can be used all year long for books, toys, notes, etc. I can’t wait to leave little notes in there for Connor to find. And since it’s a no sew project, I was able to make it in about 30 minutes. It took me longer to figure out how wide I wanted it to be than it actually took to make.
Skylanders are taking over the house and I’m not complaining at all! They make Connor happy so that makes me happy.
