My brother and sister-in-law are expecting their first baby this month and they are not finding out the gender ahead of time. Part of me is a little jealous because there is no way that I could have waited to find out what I was having. I really wish I could have waited but the planner in me had to know.
So, when it came time to buy them a baby shower gift, it got me thinking – what is a good gender-neutral baby gift? What do you get the baby that isn’t pink or blue? Well, it turns out it’s a lot easier than you think and I’ve created a great list of baby essentials that are perfect gender neutral gift ideas.

Diapers – We all know you can’t go wrong with diapers! My biggest tip is to not buy newborn or size 1 diapers. It seems like a newborn goes from wearing size 1 to size 3 overnight so I always stick to buying size 2-3 when giving diapers as a gift.
Wipes – Need I say more? All new moms and dads will need lots of diapers. Plus, it’s nice to keep packs all over the place. We even keep a pack in each car. You can never be too prepared!

Books – Every baby needs lots of books.
Swaddle Blankets – Babies love to be swaddled and I’m loving all the grey, teal, and orange baby blankets they have available. I even love the idea of black and white blankets for babies.
Teething Toys – Every baby will need something to chew on.
Portable Diaper Caddy – My mom bought me one when I had Connor and it was the best thing ever! It makes diaper changing so much easier. I had one downstairs in the living room and in our bedroom for all those diaper changes.
Special Gift for Mom – We can’t forget about mom. She deserves a special gift too. I always like to add a small gift just for the mom-to-be. My favorite is to take a water bottle and fill it with chocolate kisses. You could also add a gift certificate for a pedicure. That way she’ll have pretty toes when she has the baby and she’ll have a new water bottle to use while she’s taking care of the new baby. Mama needs to stay hydrated!
