Tips for Making Perfect Hard-Boiled Eggs in the Air Fryer

Use Older Eggs – when making hard boiling eggs, it’s best to use older eggs. Using older eggs makes them stick less to their outer shell which then makes them easier to peel. So use your fresh eggs for a different recipe and use up the older eggs you have in your fridge.

Soft Boiled Eggs – if you want soft-boiled eggs, cook the eggs for 10 minutes. Soft boiled eggs are only partially cooked so the egg white is fully cooked but the egg still has a runny yolk.

Don’t Skip the Ice Water Bath! – Make sure to submerge the eggs in the ice bath immediately when they are finished–otherwise they will continue to cook and may become overcooked.

Variations – If you use a different size egg, make sure to adjust the cooking time accordingly. You can also cook as many or as few eggs as you want, just make sure they are all in a single layer.

Peeling Hard Boiled Eggs – To peel a hard boiled egg, tap the egg on a hard surface and roll the egg between your hands to loosen the shell.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Best Way to Store Hard Boiled Eggs?

Hard boiled eggs will last up to a week when kept in their shell and stored in the fridge. It is best to leave hard boiled eggs in their shell until you are ready to eat them because the shell will help to keep bacteria out and also prevents them from absorbing odors from other foods. If the eggs have already been peeled, cover them with a damp paper towel to keep them moist before placing in an airtight container.

Why do Hard Boiled Eggs Need an Ice Bath?

No matter how you choose to cook hard-boiled eggs, they always need an ice bath immediately after you remove them from the heat. The ice bath will cool the eggs quickly and stop the cooking process. This will also make it easier to peel the hard boiled eggs because the ice water helps the egg pull away from the shell. Let the eggs sit in the cold water for 5-10 minutes.

Can Hard Boiled Eggs be Frozen?

We do not recommend freezing hard boiled eggs and since the cook time is only 15 minutes, it doesn’t take long to make hard boiled eggs for all your favorite recipes.
